Antihistamine Cream 20g is a fast-acting topical antipruritic containing Mepyramine Maleate 2% w/w to rapidly soothe itching, relieve inflammation, and reduce localized swelling caused by insect bites, stings, hives, and allergic skin irritations.

Overview & Mechanism of Action

  • Antihistamine Cream (20g tube) provides targeted cutaneous relief from acute itching, redness, and localized swelling triggered by histamine release in skin tissues:
  • Competitive Histamine $H_1$-Receptor Antagonism: Acts as a selective first-generation $H_1$-receptor antagonist. By competing with endogenous histamine for active $H_1$-receptor sites on dermal capillary endothelial cells and peripheral sensory nerve endings, it disrupts the allergic signaling cascade initiated by insect venom or plant irritants.
  • Pruritus & Edema Suppression: Inhibits histamine-induced vasodilation and capillary hyperpermeability, rapidly decreasing localized skin redness (erythema), wheal formation, and sensory nerve irritation (burning and itching).
  • Cooling & Soothing Emollient Vehicle: Formulated in a smooth cream base that provides an immediate cooling effect upon skin contact, soothing inflamed epidermal layers and restoring moisture balance.

Clinical Indications

  • Antihistamine Cream 20g is indicated for:
  • Fast relief of localized itching, pain, and swelling caused by insect bites, bee/wasp stings, and nettle rash
  • Symptomatic treatment of acute hives (urticaria), prickly heat, and allergic contact dermatitis
  • Soothing minor, localized solar dermatitis (sunburn) and superficial cutaneous allergic reactions

Usage Guidance & Safety Precautions

Administration:

  • Clean the affected skin gently prior to application. Apply a thin layer to the affected area and rub in gently. Wash hands thoroughly after application.

Recommended Dosage:

  • Adults & Children over 2 years: Apply thinly to the affected area 2 to 3 times daily as needed for up to 3 consecutive days.Children under 2 years: Use only under direct medical advice.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • For external cutaneous use only. Do not apply to broken, raw, eczematous, or extensively blistered skin. Avoid exposing treated skin areas to strong direct sunlight due to potential photosensitivity reactions. Discontinue use if localized skin rash or sensitization occurs. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, and mucous membranes. Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place. Keep out of reach of children.
