Boric Acid Ear Drops 10ml is an acidifying and antiseptic otic solution formulated to rapidly dry excess ear moisture, inhibit bacterial and fungal growth, and prevent swimmer's ear infections.

Overview & Mechanism of Action

  • Boric Acid Ear Drops (10ml bottle) provides targeted drying, acidifying, and antimicrobial action within the external auditory canal:
  • Acidification & Antimicrobial Inhibition (Boric Acid): Lowers the pH within the external auditory canal ($pH \approx 4.5\text{--}5.5$), creating an acidic microenvironment hostile to bacterial pathogens (such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and opportunist fungi (Aspergillus species and Candida albicans).
  • Desiccant & Mild Astringent Action: Gently desiccates excess trapped water and moisture within the ear canal, preventing epidermal maceration and restoring the protective lipid-acid mantle of the external ear.
  • Debris Cleansing & Itch Relief: Soothes persistent ear itching, reduces mild localized tissue swelling, and helps flush out desquamated keratin debris and inflammatory exudate.

Clinical Indications

  • Boric Acid Ear Drops 10ml is indicated for:
  • Prevention and management of acute otitis externa (swimmer's ear) triggered by trapped moisture after swimming, bathing, or humidity exposure
  • Adjunctive treatment of superficial fungal ear infections (otomycosis)
  • Maintenance of optimal ear canal pH and hygiene in individuals prone to recurring ear canal moisture and irritation

Usage Guidance & Safety Precautions

Administration:

  • Tilt head sideways or lie on your side with the affected ear facing upward.
  • Gently pull the outer earlobe backward and upward (for adults) or downward (for young children) to straighten the ear canal.
  • Instill the recommended number of drops and maintain the tilted position for $2\text{--}3\text{ minutes}$ to ensure full penetration into the canal.

Recommended Dosage:

  • Instill 2 to 4 drops into the affected ear 2 to 3 times daily, or immediately after water activities.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • For otic (ear) use only; do not ingest or use in the eyes. Strictly contraindicated in patients with a perforated eardrum (tympanic membrane perforation), open ear wounds, or ear drainage tubes. Discontinue use immediately if severe pain, burning, dizziness, or irritation occurs. Store below 25°C in a dry place protected from direct heat and light. Keep out of reach of children.
