Cordcare Solution 10ml (Chlorhexidine Gluconate 7.1%) is a high-potency, WHO-recommended topical antiseptic designed for single-application or daily neonatal umbilical cord care to prevent severe omphalitis and life-threatening newborn sepsis.

1

Overview & Mechanism of Action

  • Cordcare Solution (10ml bottle) provides targeted broad-spectrum antiseptic protection specifically formulated for the delicate umbilical cord stump of newborn infants:
  • Broad-Spectrum Microbicidal Action (Chlorhexidine Gluconate 7.1% w/v): Provides $7.1\%\text{ w/v}$ Chlorhexidine Digluconate (equivalent to $4\%\text{ w/v}$ free Chlorhexidine). It acts by rapidly binding to positively charged bacterial cell walls, disrupting membrane integrity, causing intracellular leakage, and precipitating cytoplasmic proteins in Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
  • Persistent Residual Anti-Infective Barrier: Unlike alcohol or povidone-iodine, chlorhexidine binds strongly to epidermal and umbilical tissue proteins, creating an active protective barrier that retains bactericidal activity for up to 24 hours even in the presence of blood or organic matter.
  • Reduction of Neonatal Mortality: Dramatically decreases pathogenic bacterial colonization of the newly severed umbilical stump, significantly lowering the incidence of omphalitis (umbilical infection) and systemic neonatal sepsis in high-risk birth environments.

Clinical Indications

  • Cordcare Solution 10ml is indicated for:
  • Topical antiseptic application to the umbilical cord stump in newborn infants immediately post-delivery
  • Daily routine umbilical cord hygiene and infection prevention until the cord stump naturally dries, separates, and heals
  • Prevention of localized omphalitis and ascending systemic infection in home births and healthcare settings
