Fastum Gel 20g is a fast-absorbing topical NSAID formulation containing Ketoprofen 2.5% designed to deliver targeted, localized relief from joint inflammation, muscle sprains, soft tissue swelling, and acute musculoskeletal pain.

1

Overview & Mechanism of Action

  • Fastum Gel (20g tube) provides rapid, localized anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving therapy directly at the site of tissue injury without significant systemic drug exposure:
  • Inhibition of Prostaglandin Biosynthesis (Ketoprofen 2.5% w/w): Functions as a potent propionic acid derivative NSAID that reversibly inhibits cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes. This blocks the synthesis of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins from arachidonic acid in peripheral injured tissues.
  • Transdermal Absorption & Localized Penetration: Formulated in a clear, non-greasy hydroalcoholic gel vehicle that rapidly penetrates through the stratum corneum. High active drug concentrations accumulate in subcutaneous tissues, synovial fluid, joint capsules, and tendon sheaths, while maintaining low serum concentrations to minimize systemic adverse effects.
  • Bradykinin & Lysosomal Stabilization: Inhibits bradykinin activity and stabilizes lysosomal membranes in inflamed tissues, suppressing capillary permeability, localized edema, and hyperalgesia.

Clinical Indications

  • Fastum Gel 20g is indicated for:
  • Localized symptomatic relief of acute painful conditions affecting joints, ligaments, tendons, and muscles (e.g., sprains, strains, contusions, and sports injuries)
  • Management of localized osteoarthritic joint pain, periarthritis, tendonitis, tenosynovitis, and bursitis
  • Relief of painful inflammatory back disorders, including lumbago, torticollis, and acute muscle stiffness

Usage Guidance & Safety Precautions

Administration:

  • Apply a thin layer of gel to the affected area 1 to 2 times daily (2 to 4 grams per application, equivalent to a strip of gel 5 to 10 cm long). Gently massage into the skin to facilitate complete penetration. Wash hands thoroughly immediately after application unless hands are the treated site.
  • Photosensitivity Warning (CRITICAL): Ketoprofen gel carries a known risk of severe cutaneous photosensitivity reactions. Do not expose treated skin areas to direct sunlight, UV rays, or sunbeds during treatment and for 2 weeks after stopping application. Protect treated areas with clothing when outdoors.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • For external topical use only. Do not apply to open wounds, broken or infected skin, mucous membranes, or near the eyes. Contraindicated in individuals with a history of hypersensitivity to ketoprofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs, as well as those with previous photosensitivity reactions or contact allergies to ketoprofen, tiaprofenic acid, or fenofibrate. Store below 25°C away from direct heat and light. Keep out of reach of children.
