• Imodium 2mg Capsules (pack of 60 capsules) delivers targeted synthetic opioid-receptor agonist activity localized primarily within the gastrointestinal tract:
• Myenteric Plexus Mu-Opioid Receptor Activation (Loperamide HCl): Selectively binds to $\mu$-opioid receptors in the myenteric plexus of the intestinal wall, inhibiting the release of acetylcholine and prostaglandins. This decreases circular and longitudinal smooth muscle tone, slowing intestinal transit and peristaltic activity.
• Fluid & Electrolyte Absorption Optimization: By prolonging intestinal transit time, it enhances the absorption of water, fluid, and essential electrolytes from the lumen into the bloodstream, increasing stool viscosity and reducing fluid loss.
• Anal Sphincter Tone Enhancement: Increases basal anal sphincter tone, helping to reduce fecal urgency, frequency, and involuntary bowel incontinence during severe acute episodes.

Clinical Indications

• Imodium 2mg Capsules 60s is indicated for:
• Symptomatic control and rapid management of acute non-specific diarrhea and traveler's diarrhea in adults and children over 12 years
• Long-term management of chronic diarrhea associated with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) or metabolic dysfunction
• Reducing the volume, frequency, and fluidity of discharge in patients with ileostomies or colostomies

Usage Guidance & Safety Precautions

Administration:

• Swallow capsules whole with a full glass of water. Maintain proper systemic hydration with oral rehydration solutions (ORS) alongside therapy to prevent dehydration and electrolyte loss.

Recommended Dosage:

• Acute Diarrhea (Adults and Children over 12 years): Take an initial dose of 2 capsules (4mg), followed by 1 capsule (2mg) after each loose or unformed stool. Do not exceed 8 capsules (16mg) in a 24-hour period. Discontinue use once stools become well-formed or if no bowel movement occurs for 24 hours.
• Children under 12 years: Administer only under direct pediatric supervision.

Precautions & Warnings:

• For oral administration only. Contraindicated in patients with acute dysentery (characterized by high fever and blood in stools), active severe ulcerative colitis, pseudomembranous colitis, or bacterial enterocolitis caused by invasive organisms like Salmonella, Shigella, or Campylobacter. Discontinue immediately if abdominal distension, constipation, or ileus develops. Do not exceed the recommended daily maximum dosage; high doses of loperamide have been associated with serious cardiac events, including QT prolongation and ventricular arrhythmias.
