- Nemocid 250mg Tablets (pack of 3 tablets containing Pyrantel Pamoate $250\text{mg}$) provides targeted clearance of intestinal parasitic nematodes:
- Depolarizing Neuromuscular Blockade: Acts as a potent depolarizing neuromuscular junction blocking agent on susceptible helminths, inducing persistent nicotinic receptor activation and spastic paralysis of the parasite's muscular system.
- Intestinal Clearance via Peristalsis: Paralyzed worms lose their attachment hold on the intestinal mucosa and are naturally expelled from the gastrointestinal lumen through normal intestinal peristalsis without requiring laxatives.
- Poor Systemic Absorption: Poorly absorbed from the human gastrointestinal tract, ensuring high local luminal drug concentrations at the site of infection while minimizing systemic toxicity.
Clinical Indications & Uses
- Nemocid 250mg Tablets 3s is indicated for:
- Treatment of pinworm infections (Enterobius vermicularis) in adults and pediatric patients
- Management of common roundworm infections (Ascaris lumbricoides)
- Eradication of hookworm infections (Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus)
Usage Guidance & Safety Precautions
Administration:
- Swallow tablets whole with water, or crush and mix with food or milk if necessary. May be taken with or without food.
Recommended Dosage:
- Adults and Children (over 2 years / >10kg): Standard single dose is calculated at $11\text{mg/kg}$ body weight (up to a maximum single dose of $1000\text{mg}$ / 4 tablets). For pinworms, a single dose is often repeated after 2 weeks to prevent reinfection from unhatched eggs.
Precautions & Warnings:
- For oral administration. Use with caution in patients with pre-existing hepatic impairment. Not recommended for children under 2 years of age unless specifically instructed by a physician. Avoid concurrent use with piperazine, as piperazine and pyrantel exhibit mutual neuromuscular antagonism. Mild transient side effects may include abdominal cramps, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, or headache. Store below $25^\circ\text{C}$ in a cool, dry place. Keep out of reach of children.
