Cosvate Cream 15g is a super-potent topical steroid containing Clobetasol Propionate (0.05%) designed to rapidly reduce severe skin swelling, redness, scaling, and intense itching associated with non-responsive inflammatory skin conditions.

Overview & Mechanism of Action

  • Cosvate Cream (15g) is a prescription-strength, Class I ultra-high-potency topical glucocorticoid formulated for resistant dermatological conditions that do not respond adequately to milder topical steroids:
  • Clobetasol Propionate (0.05% w/w): Acts within skin cells by binding to intracellular glucocorticoid receptors. This induces the synthesis of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins (lipocortins), which block the release of arachidonic acid. Consequently, it suppresses the formation of key inflammatory mediators—including prostaglandins and leukotrienes—producing rapid anti-inflammatory, antipruritic (anti-itch), and vasoconstrictive effects.
  • Clinical Indications
  • Cosvate Cream 15g is indicated for short-term control of acute or recalcitrant corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses, including:
  • Plaque Psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis)
  • Severe, Recalcitrant Eczema and resistant forms of dermatitis
  • Lichen Planus (purplish, itchy skin lesions)
  • Discoid Lupus Erythematosus (DLE)
  • Severe Allergic Cutaneous Flare-Ups
  • Usage Guidance & Safety Precautions
  • Application: Clean and dry the affected area. Apply a very thin layer only to the inflamed site and rub in gently 1 to 2 times daily as directed by a healthcare provider. Wash hands thoroughly after application.
  • Duration: Due to its ultra-high potency, continuous usage should strictly not exceed 2 consecutive weeks, with a maximum weekly dose limit of 50 grams. Treatment should be discontinued once control is achieved or transitioned to a milder steroid.
  • Precautions & Contraindications: For external topical use only. Do not use on facial skin, groin, underarms, or broken skin unless specified by a physician. Contraindicated in untreated bacterial, fungal, or viral skin infections (such as chickenpox, herpes, or athlete's foot) as well as rosacea and acne vulgaris. Do not cover with airtight or occlusive bandages, as this markedly increases systemic absorption and the risk of adrenal suppression or Cushing's syndrome.
