Overview & Mechanism of Action

• Promethazine Syrup oral liquid suspension/syrup, typically formulated acts on central and peripheral neuroreceptors:
• Competitive -Receptor Antagonism: Crosses the blood-brain barrier to competitively block histamine -receptor sites, preventing histamine-mediated capillary permeability, vasodilation, bronchospasm, and pruritus.
• Central Antiemetic & Vestibular Inhibition: Inhibits the chemoreceptor trigger zone in the medulla oblongata and blocks muscarinic cholinergic receptors in the vestibular apparatus, effectively mitigating motion-induced vertigo, nausea, and vomiting.
• Dopaminergic & Muscarinic Blockade: Exerts central sedative actions through alpha-adrenergic and central anticholinergic inhibition, assisting in preoperative anxiety reduction and night-time sedation.

Clinical Indications & Uses

• Promethazine Syrup 60ml is indicated for:
• Symptomatic relief of seasonal/perennial allergic rhinitis, vasomotor rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, and severe skin reactions (urticaria and angioedema)
• Prevention and active treatment of motion sickness and related nausea, vomiting, or dizziness
• Control of postoperative or anesthesia-induced nausea and vomiting, as well as pre- and post-operative sedation

Usage Guidance & Safety Precautions

Administration:

• Measure the exact liquid dose using a calibrated measuring spoon or oral dosing syringe. Take with or without food. For motion sickness, take the initial dose 30 to 60 minutes prior to travel.

Recommended Frequency:

• Dosage depends on clinical indication and patient age. Administer 2 to 4 times daily as prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Precautions & Warnings:

BLACK BOX WARNING:

• Strictly contraindicated in pediatric patients under 2 years of age due to the risk of severe, potentially fatal respiratory depression. Use with extreme caution in children aged 2 years and older. Causes significant central nervous system depression; avoid driving, operating machinery, or consuming alcohol while taking this medication. Contraindicated in patients with severe asthma, COPD, sleep apnea, narrow-angle glaucoma, or lower respiratory tract symptoms. Store below away from direct sunlight and heat.
