Pack: 1's

The Adjustable Walking Stick is engineered with lightweight aluminum alloy, an ergonomic handgrip, a non-slip rubber tip, and a secure height-adjustment mechanism to enhance stability, balance, and weight-bearing support during ambulation.

1

Overview & Mechanism of Action

  • The Adjustable Walking Stick (constructed from high-strength anodized aluminum with an ergonomic handgrip and slip-resistant rubber ferrule) provides reliable postural and balance support:
  • Weight Redistribution & Joint Unloading: Unloads partial body weight away from lower extremity joints (hips, knees, and ankles) to the upper limb, reducing articular compressive forces and relieving pain during movement.
  • Base of Support Expansion: Broadens the user's physical base of support, improving center-of-gravity control and preventing falls in individuals with postural instability, muscular weakness, or mild ataxia.
  • Ergonomic Load Transfer: Designed with a contoured handgrip that evenly distributes pressure across the palm, paired with an impact-absorbing rubber tip that maximizes ground friction and dampens stride impact.

Clinical Indications & Uses

  • The Walking Stick is indicated for:
  • Ambulatory assistance and fall prevention in elderly patients or individuals with age-related gait instability and balance deficits
  • Post-operative rehabilitation following lower extremity orthopedic procedures, fracture recovery, or joint replacement surgery (hip or knee arthroplasty)
  • Offloading joint stress and easing pain in patients with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or peripheral neuropathy

Usage Guidance & Safety Precautions

  • Height Adjustment & Fitting: Adjust the cane height so that the top of the handgrip aligns with the user's wrist crease when standing upright with arms hanging naturally. This maintains a comfortable $15^\circ\text{ to } 20^\circ$ elbow flexion angle during ambulation.

Recommended Usage:

  • Ambulatory Support: Hold the walking stick on the stronger (unaffected) side. Advance the stick simultaneously with the weaker (affected) leg, taking even, controlled steps.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • For mobility assistance only. Inspect the bottom rubber tip (ferrule) regularly for tread wear or cracking; replace worn tips immediately to maintain surface traction. Ensure the height-adjustment push-button and locking ring are securely fastened prior to use. Exercise extreme caution on wet, icy, or polished surfaces. Do not use as a full weight-bearing crutch unless directed by a physical therapist.
