Overview & Mechanism of Action

  • Cetamol Syrup (60ml bottle) is a gentle, pleasant-tasting oral liquid formulation engineered for rapid absorption and effective fever and pain control in pediatric care:
  • Central Analgesic Action (Paracetamol / Acetaminophen): Inhibits prostaglandin synthesis in the central nervous system (CNS) by modulating cyclooxygenase (COX) pathways within neuronal tissue. This elevates the pain perception threshold, relieving mild-to-moderate pain without causing stomach irritation or altering platelet function.
  • Hypothalamic Antipyresis: Acts directly on the thermoregulatory center of the anterior hypothalamus to trigger peripheral vasodilation, increased cutaneous blood flow, and sweating, facilitating rapid thermal dissipation during fever spikes.
  • Gentle Gastrointestinal Profile: Unlike nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen or aspirin, Paracetamol does not cause gastric ulceration or mucosal bleeding, making it safe for children with sensitive stomachs.

Clinical Indications

  • Cetamol Syrup 60ml is indicated for:
  • Rapid reduction of high body temperature (fever) associated with viral upper respiratory infections, influenza, and childhood illnesses
  • Prevention and management of post-immunization fever and local discomfort following pediatric vaccinations
  • Relief of mild-to-moderate pain, including teething pain, toothache, earache, headache, sore throat, and post-traumatic soft tissue pain

Usage Guidance & Safety Precautions

Administration:

  • Shake the bottle well before every dose. Measure accurately using a calibrated measuring spoon, cup, or oral dosing syringe. May be administered with or without food.

Recommended Dosage:

  • Children 6 to 12 years: 10ml to 20ml (240mg to 480mg) every 4 to 6 hours as needed.
  • Children 1 to 5 years: 5ml to 10ml (120mg to 240mg) every 4 to 6 hours as needed.
  • Infants 3 to 12 months: 2.5ml to 5ml (60mg to 120mg) every 4 to 6 hours as needed.
  • Maximum Daily Limit: Do not exceed 4 doses within any 24-hour period. Ensure a minimum interval of 4 hours between consecutive doses.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. Overdose can lead to severe, irreversible liver injury (hepatotoxicity). Never administer concurrently with other medications containing paracetamol or acetaminophen. Use with caution in patients with severe hepatic or renal impairment. Store below 30°C in a dry place protected from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
