Opticid Gel 200ml is a fast-acting antacid and antiflatulent oral gel formulation combining Aluminium Hydroxide, Magnesium Hydroxide, and Simethicone to neutralize gastric hyperacidity, soothe heartburn, and relieve painful gas bloating.

1

Overview & Mechanism of Action

  • Opticid Gel (200ml oral suspension gel) provides dual-action acid neutralization and gas symptom relief throughout the upper gastrointestinal tract:
  • Gastric Acid Neutralization: Aluminium Hydroxide and Magnesium Hydroxide act synergistically to react with excess hydrochloric acid ($\text{HCl}$) in the stomach, forming neutral salts and water, thereby elevating intragastric pH above 3.5 to relieve acidity and inhibit pepsin proteolytic activity.
  • Balanced Intestinal Motility: The formulation maintains balanced bowel function, as the constipating effect of Aluminium Hydroxide is counterbalanced by the mild osmotic laxative property of Magnesium Hydroxide.
  • Defoaming & Antiflatulent Action: Simethicone reduces the surface tension of trapped gas bubbles within the gastrointestinal tract, causing them to coalesce into larger bubbles that are easily expelled via eructation or flatus.

Clinical Indications & Uses

  • Opticid Gel 200ml is indicated for:
  • Symptomatic management of hyperacidity, acute or chronic gastritis, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Rapid relief of heartburn, acid indigestion, sour stomach, and epigastric burning pain
  • Easing painful abdominal distension, flatulence, and gas bloat associated with peptic ulcer disease

Usage Guidance & Safety Precautions

Administration:

  • Shake bottle well before use. Take between meals and at bedtime, or as needed when symptoms occur.

Recommended Dosage:

  • Adults and Children over 12 years: 10ml to 20ml (2 to 4 teaspoonfuls) 4 times daily, or as directed by a physician.Children 6–12 years: 5ml to 10ml under direct medical guidance.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • For oral administration only. Exercise caution in patients with severe renal impairment due to the risk of accumulation and systemic toxicity of magnesium and aluminium ions. Do not take simultaneously with oral tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, or iron supplements within 2 hours, as antacids significantly reduce their systemic absorption. Prolonged high-dose usage may cause phosphate depletion. Store below $25^\circ\text{C}$ in a cool, dry place away from direct light. Keep out of reach of children.
