Wound Dressing No 9 is a sterile, highly absorbent pad attached to a flexible conforming bandage designed to protect medium-to-large wounds, absorb exudate, control bleeding, and prevent bacterial contamination.

1

Overview & Mechanism of Action

  • Wound Dressing No 9 (sterile first-aid dressing featuring a non-adherent absorbent pad integrated with a flexible wrapping bandage) provides immediate mechanical protection and fluid management for acute injuries:
  • Exudate Management & Absorption: Features a thick, non-adherent absorbent core ($12\text{cm} \times 12\text{cm}$) that draws fluid away from the wound bed, maintaining a moist microenvironment while preventing tissue maceration.
  • Hemostasis & Pressure Application: The attached high-elasticity wrapping tail allows clinicians or first responders to apply controlled compression over the wound site, promoting localized dynamic hemostasis and reducing capillary hemorrhage.
  • Microbial Barrier Protection: Forms a sterile physical barrier that shields exposed dermal layers from environmental microbes, dust, and foreign particulate debris, minimizing the risk of secondary wound infection.

Clinical Indications & Uses

  • Wound Dressing No 9 is indicated for:
  • First-aid management of acute superficial lacerations, deep abrasions, puncture wounds, and traumatic skin lesions
  • Primary or secondary dressing for post-operative surgical incisions, donor sites, or minor thermal burns
  • Absorption of light-to-moderate wound exudate while maintaining pressure and dressing placement during patient transport

Usage Guidance & Safety Precautions

Application:

  • Clean and disinfect the wound area according to aseptic protocols. Open the sterile pouch, place the absorbent pad directly over the wound without touching the sterile contact surface, and wrap the attached elastic bandage firmly to secure.

Recommended Usage:

  • Replace the dressing daily or whenever the absorbent pad becomes saturated with exudate, compromised by moisture, or soiled.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • For external wound care only. Sterile until opened or damaged; do not use if the primary pouch is torn or unsealed. Do not wrap the attached bandage too tightly to avoid venous occlusion or distal limb ischemia. If the wound exhibits signs of clinical infection (increased swelling, severe pain, foul odor, or purulent discharge), seek immediate medical evaluation. Single-use disposable item; discard after removal. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
